This 9”x9”x9” model is the final output in a project involving 2-D iterations of grids, created by hand and in the drafting software application, Autocad. Care was taken to understand structural elements throughout the creation of the model - how primary, secondary, and tertiary pieces are used to support and enhance a built piece, and how they are conveyed visually. Design concepts of hierarchy, proportion, iteration, and axis were employed in Assemblage. Experiential qualities of light/shadow and solid/void were explored through the use of “windows”, frames, white vellum paper, and black-painted pieces. The piece is meant to be viewed from multiple angles, as each offers the viewer a unique and interesting experience. The success of Assemblage has led to its use in a secondary studio project - the design intervention, Breathe | Play.
